Primary SA accounts – Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, G+
Anyone with access to post to SA social media accounts must communicate with web staff before posting. On Facebook, posts from outside the web department should be scheduled at least an hour ahead of time. If they cannot be scheduled — such as a shared post — then communication with web staff is essential to avoid posts being published too close together, which can squash the reach of both posts.
New department/section-specific social media accounts
Any new department/section-specific accounts that represent the Star-Advertiser in any way must first be discussed with the Digital Editor.
Department/section-specific social media accounts
Accounts for individual departments/sections of the Star-Advertiser should only include content specific to that department/section. Sharing content from a primary SA account or other SA department/section account is encouraged, but do not post content that’s not specific to your department as an original post. We need to avoid competing with ourselves and keep our department/section-specific accounts focused.
Individual social media accounts
Individual accounts that represent the Star-Advertiser in any way must follow the guidelines of the newspapers’ social media policy. New accounts that will represent the Star-Advertiser must first be discussed with the Digital Editor.
Posting guidelines
Except in extenuating circumstances, avoid promoting direct competitors’ content.
Humanize yourself but be professional. Be engaging and inject personality into your
posts … people will respond much more to that than if you merely post links and
retweets. Just always keep in mind that you are representing the newspaper.
